Satisfy your thirst for art at the Watercolors of the Finger Lakes exhibit opening at the Phelps Arts Center
Drink in the beauty of our region through the artistic talents of local artists at the Watercolors of the Finger Lakes exhibit at the Phelps Arts Center. The exhibit features the work of Richard Ware and other regional artists, including Patrick Willett, Alice Salisbury and Jay Vine, and will show from July - September 2008.
Nothing captures the imagination like a watercolor rendering of the beauty we call home, life in the Finger Lakes. There will be over 40 items on exhibit displaying various styles and interpretations of this beautiful region. Take the visual journey from barns to boats, bridges to lighthouses. Walk through snow covered fields, down tree-lined paths and across sandy lake beaches. Enjoy the artists tribute to our architecture, our landscapes and our seasons; perhaps you will see a familiar place or one that reminds you of a favorite memory of your time in the Finger Lakes.
The latest Phelps Arts Center exhibit can be enjoyed any Friday, Saturday or Sunday from 1 4 pm after the opening on July 11 until late September. For further information please call (315) 548-2095 or visit www.phelpsny.com/arts.
Patrick Willett descripes his peices in the show:
"Falls Brink is the brink of Taughannock falls, the top just before the water falls where most tourists never go and never see the beauty of it. It is a special place for me, I took my children up there for years, they still talk about that spot.
"Cayuga tree" depicts the lovely sycamore trees along Cayuga Lake, the light mixing the water and land together.
"Grape Harvest" captures the sweeping views on the rare clearings high above the lakes, in many spots you can see more that one lake from up there. Also, in the fall, the air is saturated with the smell of grapes as the fields turn an amazing gold which seems unique to the finger lakes area.
