Take a 1-hour walking excursion in this enchanting downtown featuring buildings on the National Historic Register. Meet at The Howe House on the Front Porch, 66 Main Street, Phelps NY. Get a behind the scenes tour of the Howe House - a second empire architectural brick home built by Doctor John Q. Howe in 1869, and where his son Dr. William A. Howe lived and practiced. See the two story outhouse!
Take a trip around the corner off to the office of the Country Lawyer- where from 1840s until 1999, a series of lawyers continuously occupied this building. Get a glimpse of the law as it was practiced in less complicated, but equally challenging times, and as it was made famous by The Country Lawyer book written by Phelps native, Bellamy Partridge.
