Mike Westfall graduated in 1979 and began working as a helper for a Surge dealership owned by Charlie & Bernie Wilbur. In 1983, Mike and Charlie’s son (John Wilbur) formed a partnership for their own surge dealership. The

partnership dissolved after 10 years as John went on to focus on another career and Mike took over WW Surge completely, moving to a new location (on Maryland St.) the same year.

Nearly 20 years later, the family owned and operated business (owned by Mike Westfall and his wife Jean) is still going strong and the Phelps Chamber of Commerce is pleased to honor WW Surge as the Business of the Month for February 2012.

WW Surge distributes, installs, services, and sells supplies and  milking equipment to dairy farms for all aspects of milk production. They employ one truck driver (Guy McIntyre has been an employee for 20 years) and have an employment position available for a service technician.

They provide service to approximately 170 customers located in Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, Yates, and Monroe counties on a 16 day rotation with a route truck, offering services to dairy farms ranging from 20 to 2000 dairy cows. They specialize in Westfalia Surge equipment.

Having both grown up in the country, Mike and Jean Westfall both agree that their favorite part of living and working in the Phelps area is that it is a strong agricultural region and they love the country feel. The 2012 Tree and Shrub Program features 7 species of evergreen trees,8 species of deciduous trees,6 species of shrubs, and 2 species of ground cover. Please refer to the Tree/Shrub Table for a complete listing of available trees and shrubs and their suitability for your site. Detailed tree and shrub descriptions are provided here.

Looking for variety? Check out this year’s specialty packets –(New) Pond Habitat Packet, Evergreen, Homeowners, Fast Growing,and Songbird.

Perennial ground covers, Myrtle and Pachysandra are available.

Remember to order Bluebird houses, Fertilizer Tablets and Fluorescent Marking Flags. Order bluebird houses early as nesting occurs in March and houses should be put up in time to attract nesting pairs.

Download the Tree/Shrub Order Form, complete and mail with payment to Ontario County SWCD, 480 North Main Street, Canandaigua NY 14424. You may drop off your completed order form at the SWCD office 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
