Cobblestone housing abounds through Western New York, and
Phelps boasts fine examples, including houses and barns.
Sauerkraut Festival
The Sauerkraut Parade and Festival is held the first weekend in August each year, and is always
lots of fun for kids and adults. Phelps is the sauerkraut capital of the world, and the festival boasts
highlights such as the cutting of the sauerkraut chocolate cake!
Phelps Country
Set in beautiful countryside, including New York vineyards,
Phelps is 30 miles east from the urbanization of Rochester, and 60 miles
west of Syracuse, ideally located as a base for exploring
Western and Central New York.
History and Museums
Phelps is full of history, ranging from housing and business to railroads and comets.
The
Historical Society abounds with information and period photographs, and is
well worth a visit
just to tour the house.
People and Places
With such a diverse and friendly population, the people of Phelps enjoy country life
to the full. The many features and places of interest include parks, trails and
walkways, and world-war cemetaries
