MUSEUM AND EXHIBITS

The brick constructed, historic Howe House was built in 1869 by Moses Barlow for Dr. John Q. Howe. A two-story outhouse is connected to the Howe House, with entrances on both the first and second floors. Located on 66 Main Street, the Howe House is our main museum and there are both permanent and rotating exhibitions including household and farm equipment. It is open to the public:

  • 10 AM-4 PM on Tuesdays-Fridays throughout the year
  • 10 AM -4 PM on Wednesdays - Saturdays during the summer season (June-Labor Day)

The Road to Freedom
Tuesday, February 19 - Friday, May 9
Come see and experience the stories, memories & photographs telling the story of the Underground Railroad in Western NY.  This exhibit is a touring exhibit from Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society.  It is being augmented with relevant Finger Lakes exhibit materials created by Ontario County Historian Preston Pierce. Free.

Sports & Phelps
Tuesday, May 27 - Friday, August 22
Remember days glory days gone by?  Reminisce with memorabilia from local school sports and community teams as we celebrate the sporting life in Phelps. Can you name the Major League ball player who was from Phelps, or his team?  Many of our former sports stars and fans have lent or donated objects and stories for this fun exhibit. Free.

Holiday Exhibit : Angels & Candles

Come celebrate the holiday season with a visit to Howe House as it is decorated for  and old-fashioned holiday, trimmed with garland and decorations.  Free.
