Every month, the Phelps Chamber of Commerce selects one of its’ members to be recognized as the Business of the Month. For February of 2013, United Way of Ontario County receives the honor.
The leading volunteer organization maximizing financial resources to assist people in need, United Way of Ontario County is run by a partnership of dedicated staff and volunteers who work together to make our community a better place to live. The mission of United Way of Ontario County is to magnify and focus on the power of community resources to address our most pressing social needs.
In 2012, United Way of Ontario County provided funding to a number of community oriented organizations including: the Boys and Girls Club of Geneva, Coordinated Child Development Program, Happiness House of the Finger Lakes, Salvation Army (Canandaigua), Phelps Community Center, and the YMCA (Canandaigua, Clifton Springs, and Geneva) with a focus on creating new after school programs and activities for youth in the community.
It is a busy time of year for this non-profit organization as they undergo a change in leadership. The former Regional Director (Rhoda Childs) is retiring after having worked for United Way since March of 1987. Kari Buch will be taking over the role of Regional Director, and with 15 years experience at various local YMCAs, it will be exciting to see the wonderful things that Buch will contribute to this staple organization, and our community.
If you’d like to support United Way of Ontario County, now is the time because there is currently a matching grant being held by the Canandaigua National Bank & Trust Challenge For Children. With this program, the Canandaigua National Bank & Trust will match your new donation to the Ontario County Community Fund dollar for dollar… up to $30,000.
