Carriage House Bakery Opens Up Its Doors in Phelps

BakedgoodsCarriage House Bakery & Cafe’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held on this past August. Linda and Luigi Mortuiccio have been in the business for a little over five years and recently moved their location out of Pittsford and into Phelps. Look for them at 2 Exchange Street, just off Main Street, in downtown. They make everything from scratch and are very careful about buying high quality ingredients to ensure quality.
Many of the recipes for the baked goods were Linda’s grandmother’s – for those of you that still remember Ida May Mosher who used to live locally on Newark Street. Although she wouldn’t reveal any secrets, Linda’s one hint for us was that the best cookies are made in small batches and believes that the bigger companies that make the bigger batches will always have trouble matching the quality cookies she makes. It’s pristine at their location and they do a great job at keeping the place looking brand new. You can see a lot of pride in what they do.
Mouth watering pies, yummy cakes, muffins, donuts and various coffees are always at your service. They do lunches and deliveries as well. The roast beef and turkeys are cooked by them and the ham is baked in their oven. Byrne Dairy in Phelps is now carrying their donuts and they are working to offer their products in other places too. Years ago their building was a paint store, and the owner’s children would never let them eat anything while they were in the there. One of the children caught wind of the bakery and relayed that story to Luigi. They shared a good laugh as that’s all it’s about now.
“Our vision is getting back to what it used to be like in the old days. Things were simpler then and we are using the old way of thinking to build our business today,” said Luigi. They both appreciate the support of the community and hope that they will eventually be able to pass this wonderful concept down to the next generation.
